My Superpower Is Kind of Cute

Chapter 32: Grandpa, Please Come In

I rolled my eyes and instantly lost all desire to talk to him. After riding with Zhao Leichuan for nearly half an hour, we finally arrived at Huaxia Hall, located far from the city center. The restaurant is situated near a park, allowing diners to enjoy the scenic views of the lake and mountains while they eat. There was a parking lot outside the restaurant, but it was reserved for cars—a gathering of luxury vehicles. Zhao Leichuan didn’t hold back—he spotted an empty spot and parked his little electric scooter right in the middle of it, without even locking it. Then, with his head held high and chest puffed out, he strode toward the restaurant. The old man watching the cars was taken aback; he hesitated for a long time before approaching us. Perhaps in his mind, anyone who could afford to come here must be either rich or famous,so he probably took us for rich kids who love to show off—little did he know I’m actually broke as hell. Qi Yun had just drifted over with me and was now taking in the surroundings with great interest. He teased me in my ear, “That girl’s really thoughtful, inviting you, Mengmeng, to such a nice place for dinner. Tsk, tsk.” I’d actually been taking in the surroundings myself. To be honest, the restaurant’s courtyard was really well-designed, though I couldn’t quite put my finger on exactly what made it so good. In any case, the greenery, the pond, and the fountain all looked quite pleasing to the eye. Hearing Qi Yun say that, I shot him a glance and replied, “She didn’t invite me personally—it was that kid Zhao Leichuan who dragged me here. I’m still a bit baffled by the whole thing.” “That’s where you went wrong,” Qi Yun said with the air of someone who’d been there before, his tone full of meaning. “That girl asked you out a few days ago, didn’t she? You brushed her off so casually back then. Girls are shy—if you turn her down again, where would that leave her?” I scratched my head and said, “Do I really come across as that aloof?” If it hadn’t been for Zhao Leichuan constantly nagging me in the taxi to “go reincarnate,” I would’ve liked to chat with a girl a bit more, too. In response to my remark, Qi Yun just smiled without saying a word, continuing to move about freely within my immediate vicinity. I looked around at the upscale, elegant restaurant, walked over to Zhao Leichuan, and whispered, “Do you think Xia Chun, a girl on her own, can afford a place like this? This must be a huge expense for her.” Zhao Leichuan casually patted my shoulder. “What’s the big deal? I’ll just jump in and pay the bill later. You’re still too young.” I nodded without saying a word. I didn’t have much money on me anyway, so if Zhao Leichuan wanted to show off, let him. My job was just to eat and drink to my heart’s content. Walking side by side with him to the restaurant entrance, just as we were about to go in, we were stopped by two waiters at the door. “Excuse me, sir…” I stood at the doorway, momentarily stunned, wondering if they were asking for a tip. I pulled my wallet out of my pocket and opened it—I felt a bit embarrassed when I saw it was full of one- and five-yuan coins, with not a single bill over fifty. Just as I was about to hand it over, I noticed the waiters’ sour expressions, so I sheepishly put it back. “This is such a hassle,” Zhao Leichuan stepped forward, pulled two red bills from his pocket without a word, and said with an impatient look, “Can you let us in now?” Seeing Zhao Leichuan’s attitude, the waiter grew even more displeased. He eyed me with a sullen expression and said dismissively, “Sir, your attire…” I looked down at my clothes, then looked up at the two of them in confusion. “What? Are there strict dress codes just for having a meal? This isn’t school—why are there so many rules?” “Exactly,” Zhao Leichuan chimed in, stirring up trouble. “Back when I was in school, I didn’t even wear a uniform. Do you believe me if I say I’ll take my shirt off right here and go in?” I rolled my eyes. “Would it kill you to shut up for a second? Are we here to eat or to cause trouble?” The waiters exchanged a glance and, in perfect unison, pulled out their walkie-talkies to call for help. “Two troublemakers at the main entrance. Come deal with them immediately. Copy that, copy that. Over.” In less than a few seconds, three or four security guards darted out from the security area, glaring at me menacingly. “They’re looking for trouble,” Zhao Leichuan cursed—his old habit had resurfaced—and reached for his phone to call for backup. I stopped him with a firm grip, furrowing my brow. “Forget it. Otherwise, you go in on your own—I’ll just leave.” Zhao Leichuan put on a serious face and declared with righteous conviction, “No way. If we’re leaving, we’re leaving together.” I looked at him in surprise. “Are you going to stand Xia Chun up?” “No way.” Zhao Leichuan pulled out his phone again and explained to me, “I’ll just tell her to change the location for dinner. We don’t need all this flashy nonsense.” I stayed silent. It seemed like this was the only option now. I hadn’t expected getting into this place to involve so much hassle, but it wasn’t really my fault—they hadn’t given me any advance notice. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have shown up dressed like this. While I was talking with Zhao Leichuan, I heard those two waiters whispering behind my back again, “Thinking you can walk in dressed like that? There really are all kinds of people out there…” I was getting a little annoyed, but I couldn’t really let it show here. I turned to Zhao Leichuan beside me and asked, “Have you gotten in touch yet? If not, I’ll just go wait outside for a bit…” “Why are you standing out there instead of coming in?” No sooner had I finished speaking than, just as I was about to turn and leave, a melodious voice reached my ears. I glanced back and saw Xia Chun, dressed in a white gown with a flowing skirt, walking toward us—she looked as beautiful as a heavenly maiden. I instantly had a strange feeling—just a few days ago she’d been dressed as a maid, but today she’d transformed into a little princess… Hmm, it looked like her cleavage was showing. “Miss Xia.” The waitress and the security guards, seeing Xia Chun approaching, quickly cleared a path and bowed their heads in respectful greeting. The waitress, seemingly still confused about the situation, took the high ground and pointed at me in front of her, saying, “Those two are being rude and unreasonable—especially him, trying to come in dressed like that.” Qi Yun let out a soft chuckle, hovering in midair as he remarked, as if watching a show, “I can tell that young lady holds quite a high position here.” I actually had the same thought, and when I considered the name of this restaurant, I couldn’t help but startle myself. Xia Chun ignored those people and walked straight toward me. Her eyes seemed to betray a hint of joy; she gave me a once-over, smiled faintly, and teased, “Mengmeng, you’re dressed so casually today—it really suits you.” “Really? I think so too,” I mumbled, trying to change the subject. I really couldn’t tell if she was just paying me a backhanded compliment or genuinely taking a dig at me. “This… this…” The waitress was instantly dumbfounded, standing there at a loss; the more savvy security guards nearby had already slipped away without a trace. Xia Chun turned to face the two of them, furrowing her brow slightly. “Didn’t I tell you that my guests would be coming here to dine? Why haven’t you let them in yet?” she asked, her tone tinged with displeasure. The waitress looked at me with a blank expression. “He… he didn’t say anything…” “You should’ve given me a chance to say something,” Zhao Leichuan glared at the two of them. “I’m going to file a complaint against your boss.” The two immediately looked at Xia Chun with pitiful expressions. “Zhao Leichuan, Mengmeng, let’s go inside first. I’ll handle this.” Xia Chun nudged me and Zhao Leichuan toward the restaurant. Zhao Leichuan hinted to Xia Chun, “You can call me Leilei or Chuanchuan—there’s no need to be so formal and use my full name.” I turned back to look at the two of them, raised an eyebrow, and asked, “I just want to ask—what’s wrong with me dressing like this? Can I come in?” The two nodded rapidly, like chicks pecking at grain, and said, “Sure, sure. Grandpa, please come on in.”
