My Superpower Is Kind of Cute

Chapter 31: The Hall of Huaxia

Once the swelling in my arm went down, I didn’t have to wrap it in bandages and pretend I had a broken bone just to go to the lottery shop. Other than that, nothing much seemed to have changed. When I opened the shop that afternoon, everyone praised my robust constitution—yesterday my arm was still wrapped in bandages, but today I was ringing up sales like a pro. These past few days have been relatively uneventful; my “Qilin Arm” hasn’t flared up, and I’ve gradually forgotten about the whole thing. Qi Yun has been noticeably quieter, preferring to sit alone and watch the foot traffic outside the store, silent as a handsome young man. This couldn’t help but remind me of the Shar-Pei that Zhao Leichuan used to keep at home—it was cooped up inside all day and never went out. That dog would lie on the floor watching the view outside the window, and it looked exactly like Qi Yun. Later, when I went back, I didn’t see it anymore. I heard from Zhao Leichuan that it had apparently climbed upstairs on its own because it couldn’t adjust to the new environment? “Why don’t you eat something and get some sleep before you say that to me?” Qi Yun shrugged and waved his hand dismissively. “I’m pretty puzzled by it myself. Oh well, never mind.” Then he put on a lecherous grin, slyly slung his arm around my shoulder, and said, “Mengmeng, have you downloaded any good new movies lately? Wait till we get home so I can enjoy them properly.” I brushed his hand off my shoulder. “You can enjoy them, sure, but please don’t get all touchy-feely with me.” I glanced at the time—it was almost quitting time—and was just about to shut down my computer and head home. Before I could leave, Zhao Leichuan rode up to the store entrance on his electric scooter. He still had a medicated patch on his face and some bruises, but he looked much better overall. “You here to buy a lottery ticket? We’re closed—come back tomorrow.” As soon as I saw him walk in, I immediately reached out and turned off the power. “That works out perfectly,” Zhao Leichuan exclaimed happily, grabbing my hand and leading me outside. “Come on, let’s go grab a bite.” “You don’t have to be so polite.” Hearing there was food involved, I followed Zhao Leichuan out, locked the shop door, hopped on the back of his scooter, and asked, “Where are we going to eat?” Without even turning his head, Zhao Leichuan gave me a brief reply, “Huaxia Hall.” “Are you kidding me?” I widened my eyes in astonishment. “You’re not planning to treat me to a meal just to put on a show, then cut out my kidneys and sell them, are you?” I’d heard a little about the restaurant “Huaxia Hall.” It’s incredibly famous—just from the name alone, you can tell it’s got serious class. They’ve opened no fewer than ten or twenty locations nationwide, each with its own unique style and signature dishes. Most importantly, every single one has earned at least one Michelin star. With that kind of reputation, a steady stream of foodies flocks there every day. But the restaurant only offers a limited number of seats, which means many people are willing to go to great lengths and spend a fortune just to get their foot in the door. The fact that Zhao Leichuan actually managed to secure a table—and, most remarkably, that the first person he thought of wasn’t a girl but me—instantly raised his standing in my eyes by several notches. “It wasn’t me—it was Xia Chun who got the reservation. She said she wanted to thank us for helping her out a few days ago.” Zhao Leichuan raced toward the restaurant at breakneck speed, riding his perfectly good little electric scooter as if it were an AE86. “Damn.” I mentally cursed him three times in a row. No wonder he was being so kind as to invite me along… “Wait a minute—given how you usually act, shouldn’t you be the one eagerly heading off to the party all by yourself?” “I’d love to,” Zhao Leichuan replied bluntly. “She told me I absolutely had to bring you along. What choice did I have? I’m just as desperate as you are.” I nodded with genuine relief. “Xia Chun’s got a heart after all. You should take a page from her book.” Then my gaze fell on his outfit. Holy cow—head-to-toe designer labels, his hair styled like a grown man’s. Anyone who didn’t know better would think he was going for a job interview as a male host. Realizing we were about to head to that kind of place, my face instantly fell. “Couldn’t you have told me sooner? At least let me go home and change.” ” “Change what? This looks just fine.” “You’re the one dressed to the nines—take a look at what I’m wearing.” I was annoyed, thinking he must have done this on purpose. To make matters worse, I was dressed especially shabbily today—a pair of extra-large green flip-flops, bright red three-quarter-length shorts, and a baggy T-shirt with a few stubborn soy sauce stains I couldn’t wash out. I even doubted if I’d be allowed in wearing this outfit. Zhao Leichuan turned and glanced at me, then exclaimed with genuine admiration, “That’s actually pretty cool—red pants with green shoes. Mengmeng, you’re the best.”
