My Superpower Is Kind of Cute

Chapter 9: First Victory

“Hey, did someone just jump off the building?” one of the young men by the pool asked Zhao Leichuan, a cigarette hanging from his mouth. Zhao Leichuan glanced in the direction he was pointing and sternly warned him, “Don’t spout nonsense. I’m warning you not to do drugs in my house. Get out of here.” The young man replied with a pout, “I didn’t see wrong—there really was a figure that just jumped off your balcony…” But his words were quickly drowned out by the commotion. When I snapped back to reality, I realized I’d left Zhao Leichuan’s villa. Thinking back on that leap I’d just made, it was actually pretty cool—**mind-blowing**. Under normal circumstances, I’d definitely have broken a bone, but this spiritual energy really is a great thing. Qi Yun watched the shadowy figure in black emerge from the car. Using my body as a vessel, he stuck out his tongue and licked his lips, striking a series of showy poses. First, he held his breath; then he began to breathe in and out steadily and rhythmically; finally, he became completely breathless, and walked straight toward the man in black. I felt a surge of energy coursing through my body, yet without the slightest discomfort. It was as if every pore in my body had opened, and my perception of my surroundings became extremely acute. Following Qi Yun’s cultivation just now, I felt a slight warmth in my abdomen, and a new source of energy had emerged within me. The sensation was strange—I didn’t know how to describe it—as if my body belonged to me yet wasn’t truly mine. I didn’t dare disrupt Qi Yun’s rhythm, because by then I had already reached the man in black. We stood face to face, staring at each other. The man in black seemed as blind as a bat—he didn’t notice my presence at all and kept turning his head, cautiously surveying his surroundings. “Is he blind, or have I shrunk so much that he can’t see me?” Finally, I couldn’t help but ask Qi Yun telepathically. Qi Yun replied, “I’ve activated the ‘Xuanwu Ding’ with my spiritual energy. As long as we stay quiet, he won’t detect us.” “Speak plain language! What’s this ‘Xuanwu Butt’ nonsense? I might as well call it a ‘turtle’s butt’!” I protested. I’d asked him to explain the principle, but he’d gone and brought up the name of the technique instead. I could sense Qi Yun sighing inside me before he finally replied, “To put it simply, it’s the ‘Turtle Breathing Technique.’ It controls your breathing rate so they can’t sense our presence—though, of course, the fact that we can stand face-to-face like this without being detected might also have something to do with your current height, Mengmeng…” “So it really is because I’ve turned into a shorty that my presence has become less noticeable.” Thinking about my current appearance, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of annoyance. That moment of annoyance immediately broke my concentration, and I reverted to my normal breathing pattern. The man in black instantly noticed my presence, glanced down at me, and took off running, dashing to the sedan and keeping a distance of several dozen meters from me. “What’s going on?” another, slightly shorter man in black leaned out from the driver’s seat and asked. “Nothing,” the man in black outside said softly after catching his breath. “I just saw some ugly monster. I thought I’d run into a ghost…” I didn’t hear what he said; otherwise, I would’ve definitely gone after him to fight. Taking advantage of this moment, I asked Qi Yun curiously, “What did you notice just now?” Qi Yun replied, “Nothing out of the ordinary. The spiritual energy here is the same as on our Hezhong Continent—it’s just that it’s really too low…” “That’s not just regional bashing—it’s gone as far as temporal and spatial discrimination,” I said indignantly. “You’re all that, but even after your soul traveled here, didn’t you still have to rely on my body to rise to power?” Qi Yun instantly stopped paying any attention to me. After catching his breath, the man in black returned to my side, looking at me with disdain and a hint of contempt in his voice. “Hey, buddy, it’s late at night—go home and get some sleep. Don’t be scaring people around here.” “Can you just let this slide?” Perhaps it had been a while since he’d used his spiritual power, and Qi Yun was itching to let loose. He stood by, fanning the flames and egging me on. “If I were you, I’d have gone up there and beaten him up ages ago… Wait, actually, I guess I am you right now. So, what do you say? Do you want me to teach him a lesson with my spiritual power?” “Shut up,” I silently told Qi Yun in my mind. Looking at the man in black, I couldn’t blame him for saying that—after all, I couldn’t even accept this transformation myself. But what I needed to confirm now was whether he’d actually come here to pick a fight. “Are you here to cause trouble for him?” I pointed at Zhao Leichuan’s villa and cut straight to the chase. Perhaps out of confidence in his own strength, the man in black nodded readily. “Yes. If you know what’s good for you, get out of here fast. Otherwise, I’ll beat you up too.” I couldn’t help but shake my head, muttering to myself, “Go ahead.” Those three words were clearly directed at Qi Yun inside me. “You don’t know a good thing when you see it.” The man in black raised his fist and swung it straight at my face, but before it could land, Qi Yun instantly unleashed a powerful burst of spiritual energy from within me, effortlessly sending the man flying. The man in black plopped down onto the ground and stared at me in astonishment, saying with a look of disbelief, “You’re a psychic too?” I raised an eyebrow, looking bewildered. “Then what the hell was that?” Thinking I was playing dumb, the man in black glared at me menacingly as I got up from the ground and brushed the dust off my back. A rope had materialized in his hand at some point. “A spirit-controlling artifact?” Qi Yun looked slightly surprised—though the expression was fleeting—and then resumed his dismissive expression. “What the heck is that?” I was still clueless; my brain was clearly overloaded tonight. The man in black whipped the rope in his hand, trying to lasso me like a Western cowboy. Though his throw was elegant, his technique was appallingly poor—even standing still, I could tell the rope had missed me by several meters. Just then, the rope seemed to take on a life of its own, tracing an eerie arc through the air as it lunged toward me. As the rope closed in on me, Qi Yun had no time to explain. He reached out with his left hand and grabbed the rope. The moment it was seized, it went limp, and Qi Yun used the momentum to yank the man in black toward me. The man in black was taken completely by surprise. He’d thought he’d be able to subdue me easily, but by the time he realized what was happening, Qi Yun had already dragged him right in front of me. Qi Yun then took control of my right hand and delivered a vicious blow to the man’s abdomen. I saw my right hand enveloped by a translucent, azure energy that carried a hint of chill as it struck the man in black in the abdomen. As the punch landed with a “thud,” the blue light vanished, and a hazy cloud of mist erupted before my eyes, rushing toward me. the air around me instantly grew damp, and the man in black let out a blood-curdling scream as he was sent flying onto the lawn dozens of meters away. His clothes—especially around his abdomen—were clearly stained with a large wet patch. Seeing this, the man in black didn’t hesitate. He scrambled to his feet, rushed to the car, opened the door, and slipped inside—his movements as smooth as flowing water. Once inside, he roared furiously, “Let’s get out of here! Damn it, this is freaky.” The driver had long since sensed something was wrong and had already started the car the moment the man in black was knocked away. If that man hadn’t gotten back up so quickly, the driver might have left him behind and driven off. Hearing his words, the driver didn’t hesitate—he immediately turned the car around and sped away. “Mengmeng, let’s go after him,” Qi Yun said, sounding as if he had more to say. If I hadn’t deliberately stayed put, he probably would’ve already given chase. “No way. Don’t you see how much of a commotion we’ve caused?” The ground around me was covered in water, and the torn rope under my feet had vanished at some point. Zhao Leichuan and the others, having heard the earlier screams, were rushing out of the villa. The group led by Zhao Leichuan spotted me the moment they stepped outside. Zhao Leichuan was a bit tipsy; he looked puzzled at the large wet patch at my feet, scrutinized me, and asked, “Who are you? You’ve got quite the bladder—how did you manage to pee that much?” I snapped back, “I’m your grandpa.” “Bullshit,” Zhao Leichuan retorted forcefully. “I don’t have a grandpa as short as you.”
