After discovering a cultivator's hidden cave residence, Fang Yun becomes the last known cultivator on Earth. Despite gaining unusual abilities, he has little interest in leaving his family behind to chase glory. Instead, he returns home, spends time with the people he cares about, and helps develop his quiet mountain village. The village's unexpected prosperity soon attracts visitors, investors, and opportunists with very different motives. Fang Yun tries to protect the community without turning every problem into a confrontation, balancing cultivation with farming, family life, and the challenge of keeping a peaceful place peaceful.
Chapter 46: Building a House Overnight
“Once upon a time, there was a mountain, and on that mountain stood a temple…” Seeing Niuniu’s eyes wide as saucers, Fang Yun simply couldn’t go on. “Daddy, that’s just stuff to fool three-year-olds—Niu Niu is already five!” Niu Niu expressed her deep dissatisfaction. Aren’t these stories supposed to be the most effective for lulling kids to sleep? Why does this little girl look at me with such utter disdain? “Little girl, here you go.” Fang Yun had no choice but to pull out his last resort. He scooped up the chubby little girl and started tickling her. “Hahaha, Niuniu won’t dare anymore.” Niuniu was terrified of being tickled; she was laughing so hard tears were streaming down her face. Watching his daughter finally fall asleep, Fang Yun let out a long sigh. Now it was time for him to get to work. But before he got started, shouldn’t he find some extra hands? At this thought, a mischievous smile spread across Fang Yun’s face. A group of animals sleeping in the cave behind the house shuddered in unison. Fang Yun flashed into the cave and clapped his hands. “Get up and get to work, all of you. You’ve been eating and living off me day after day—now it’s time to pay me back.” With that, he turned and walked away. Facing Fang Yun—who, in their eyes, was a demon lord—not a single animal dared to resist. They obediently followed him out. Arriving behind the pond near his home, Fang Yun first set up a soundproof barrier. He then channeled his Yuan Power to carve several deep grooves into the ground, marking the foundation lines. “You lot, start digging along the lines I’ve drawn.” Although the animals didn’t understand what their master was saying, they knew what he wanted them to do just by watching his hand gestures. So they got to work—after all, he was their master. After being nourished for these past few days by the Spirit-Gathering Array surrounding the entire village, each of them had become more spirited than before. These creatures had all undergone significant changes. The most obvious was the little wild boar, which had now grown into a nearly full-sized one, its coat glossy and shiny. The animals worked with great enthusiasm. A herd of wild boars charged forward like bulldozers, rooting up all the stones and pushing them aside, while the giant python raised its massive tail and slammed it down with force. After just a few strikes, a flat, smooth surface emerged. The commotion was a bit too loud, though—if Fang Yun hadn’t set up a sound-proofing barrier early on, the entire village would likely have been startled. Fang Yun watched the animals at work and nodded in satisfaction—he really was quite clever. With these creatures digging the foundation, Fang Yun felt at ease as he went to gather the materials needed for his new house. Fang Yun wanted to build a log cabin. Nestled against the mountains, a beautiful log cabin hidden among the trees, barely visible—what a stunning sight that would be. He flew deep into the mountains, chopped a pile of wood, stored it in his ring, and brought it back. The group of animals that had just finished digging the foundation got back to work. The white eagle split the logs into one-inch-thick planks. As its sharp, metallic-glinting talons swept across the wood, a plank was ready in an instant—smooth as glass and requiring absolutely no further processing. Once most of the wood had been split, the giant python coiled its tail around several pieces set aside for pillars, drove them into the ground with a single, forceful thrust, and the job was done. As for the wild boars, Fang Yun had them continue digging; he planned to excavate a large pond to serve as a swimming pool for his family. Fang Yun used his Yuan Power to directly embed the wooden planks between the two pillars. After working through half the night, the house was finally finished, but Fang Yun couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. It took him a long time to realize that there weren’t enough trees around it; the bare, stark house standing out at the foot of the mountain looked completely out of place. He hurried back into the mountains, found several tall, lush trees, uprooted them, and brought them back to plant around the house. Exhausted, Fang Yun surveyed the fruits of his overnight labor and felt a deep sense of pride. The entire log cabin had two stories: the ground floor housed the kitchen, living room, storage room, and bathroom, while the upper floor contained four bedrooms—Fang Yun thought this would provide a place for guests to stay in the future. All the furniture and beds were crafted by Fang Yun using magic and looked absolutely stunning. The beautiful log cabin was covered on all sides by ivy that Fang Yun had made to grow using his magic; the lush greenery obscured most of the house, revealing only a corner and the doors and windows. In front of the house was a large pond, its surface smoothed and leveled by a python, filled with water Fang Yun had drawn from the reservoir. Inside, several beautiful little fish could be seen swimming leisurely. Dense trees shielded the cabin on all sides; from a distance, only one corner could be seen, faintly visible beneath the shade of the trees, sparking a desire to explore further. After giving the animals some spring water, Fang Yun told them to go back to sleep. He then walked back home himself. Back home, after taking a shower, he saw Niuniu, who had kicked off her blanket because it was too hot. Fang Yun shook his head, tucked the little girl back in, and lay down on the bed himself, slowly drifting off to sleep. “Ah…” Hearing the screams from outside, Fang Yun smiled smugly. He’d long anticipated this reaction—a beautiful wooden house had sprung up out of nowhere in the village overnight. It would be strange if everyone weren’t surprised. “Daddy, there’s a really beautiful house out there! Let’s go take a look.” Just then, Niuniu, who had just gone out to play with Yeyue, rushed in, grabbed Fang Yun’s hand, and dragged him outside. When they reached the door, Fang Yun saw a dense crowd gathered around the wooden house, pointing and whispering—his entire family was there. Yet not a single person dared to go inside. While everyone was deeply curious about the mysteriously appearing house, their curiosity was overshadowed by fear. This was especially true for the villagers. In the deep mountains, stories of the supernatural were commonplace—fox spirits, the Yellow Great Immortal, and the like. So the villagers always treated mysterious phenomena with a sense of reverence. “Mom and Dad, this is the house I built last night in preparation for my wedding. What do you think? Not bad, right?” Fang Yun walked over to his parents and said proudly. Everyone nearby was stunned. How could Fang Yun have built such a beautiful house overnight? “What! You built this house in one night?” Wang Jiu and the others thought they must have misheard. “Yeah, the animals we keep at home helped out too,” Fang Yun said without elaborating, shifting the blame onto the animals. Fang Yun reasoned that he couldn’t keep his abilities hidden forever. Setting aside everything else, the fact that he had cultivated to the Nascent Soul stage—allowing him to live for a thousand years—couldn’t be concealed as generation after generation of villagers passed away while he remained ageless and immortal. So Fang Yun decided to let everyone witness his wonders more often, so they could gradually get used to it. Upon hearing Fang Yun’s words, everyone thought about those wondrous animals and began to understand. If the animals were so extraordinary, it made no sense for their master to be an ordinary person. Their gaze toward Fang Yun, however, had taken on a look of awe and reverence. Fang Yun could only offer a wry smile; they would only adjust once they had gradually grown accustomed to it. After learning the origin of the log cabin, the crowd gradually dispersed. Fang Yun led his family inside to take a closer look. “It’s truly beautiful,” they all exclaimed, full of praise as they took in the interior. Fang Yun felt a surge of pride—after all, he had crafted every detail of the cabin using the same techniques he used to refine magical artifacts; how could it not be stunning? Niuniu and Yeyue clearly loved it here, running up and down the house with shouts of delight. Watching the two children so happy, Wang Jiu suddenly felt that no matter what Fang Yun was like, as long as the family was happy together, that was all that mattered. He silently decided not to pry any further into how Fang Yun had actually managed to create all this.
