Immortals and Demons Forever

Chapter 39: Uprooting the Evil

Seeing no response from He Jin, Chen Li howled in pain. Chen Li cursed, “Mu Ge is asking you a question! Are your ears fucking deaf? I might as well just chop your head off. After all, I already killed someone from the Supervision Team half a year ago—you wouldn’t be the first.” He swung the shovel, making a move to strike. He Jin shook his head frantically. Sweat beaded more heavily on Cao Shang’s forehead. When it came to playing mind games, he was no match for Su Mu. “Let him speak! You’ve got a chance to live now—stop yelling. I’m telling you, there are demon beasts in there! Anyone who disobeys, I’ll send them over there to be devoured by the demon beasts!” Zhong Da reached out and ripped the thick cloth from He Jin’s mouth. “No—it wasn’t Tang Kuan… it was Gou Wei!” Su Mu fixed his gaze on Cao Shang and gave a mocking smile. “I—I…” Su Mu swung his staff right into his mouth. “Still lying even now! Don’t you believe there’s a demon beast in here? Fine, I’ll let you see it with your own eyes.” “No, no… I surrender! Spare my life—I’m still useful. I can help you take down Song Dachui!” Cao Shang cried out urgently, gritting his teeth against the excruciating pain. “Tell me how to take him down.” “Sun Datou is having an affair behind Song Dachui’s back with his mistress. I have evidence—if I bring it out, it’ll be enough to make them turn on each other.” “Where is it?” “It’s at my place. There’s a brick in the wall that can be pulled out—the evidence is hidden inside.” “I’ll go get it myself. All right, you’re a two-faced traitor—I don’t trust you.” “No, don’t…” Black Hand grabbed Cao Shang and dragged him forward, while Su Mu took the torch from one of his companions and led the way. This time, he strode boldly into the depths of the lair, bellowing at the top of his lungs, “Stop napping! Come out! I’ve brought you a present!” The three of them came to a halt. The iron hammer and digging shovel left on the ground were still there, as were the tattered spider webs. In less than half a minute, the arachnid beast crawled down from the ceiling. It had sensed that the intruder was the prey that had escaped last time, and instantly grew excited. It was Black Hand’s first time seeing a demon beast, and he was clearly very nervous. “Su Mu, let’s talk this over! Don’t do this—I really don’t want to die. I’m begging you…” Cao Shang was already a tearful mess. Seeing the demon beast charging toward them, he said nothing but made a gesture to throw him away. Black Hand threw Cao Shang across the room with all his might. The two immediately retreated. Cao Shang hit the ground hard, but his willpower was strong; he pushed himself up with both hands, trying to crawl away. The spider-like demon beast pounced and sank its fangs into his head in a single bite! A piercing scream echoed throughout the entire demon beast’s lair. He Jin’s pants were already soaked. He heard the monster’s growl—Cao Shang, the linchpin of the Supervision Team, had been devoured by the monster! So what would happen to him next? “Your turn!” Zhong Da grabbed him by the back of the neck. “Sorry, brother. You know what you have to keep in mind when doing something like this, right? It’s ‘eradicate the problem at its root.’ At this point, I’ve got no choice.” Soon, more screams rang out. The four of them disposed of the two men and crawled out through the exit—this time, there was no need to seal it back up. “That really feels good. Back when Song Dachui was interrogating me, Cao Shang came up with plenty of nasty ideas. Today, he got exactly what he deserved!” Chen Li said. “In a place like this, showing mercy will only get you into big trouble. While I was on the Supervision Team, I never did anything wrong to these two—it was actually them who wronged me,” Zhong Da said, completely at ease with what they’d just done. “Let’s go. Now that we’ve taken care of these two, there’s still Gou Wei—he must be eliminated!” Su Mu urged, and the group quickly returned to the heavy machinery area. Gou Wei held a mid-to-lower-level position in the Supervision Team and was often required to stay behind in the mine shaft. Today was no exception, so with him down there, things would be easy to handle. Zhong Da ran straight to the upper level of the mine shaft and found the spot where Gou Wei was resting and sleeping. “Why are you out here?” Gou Wei had just been about to fall asleep when he was woken up; he was already annoyed, and when he saw that it was Zhong Da who’d come looking for him, he found it even more strange. “Old Jin sent me to find you. There’s an urgent matter that requires your presence.” “What’s the emergency?” “Someone’s opened the iron gate—someone of unknown origin might have gotten in. Several people have heard strange noises coming from the Shadow Zone inside from time to time. Everyone in the Heavy Machinery Zone is in a panic right now.” “Is that so? Wasn’t it one of your own people who did it?” “Of course I’ve checked. Opening the iron gate without authorization is against the rules—no one would be bold enough to knowingly break them.” “Damn it, an incident like this so late at night—it’s ruining my sweet dreams!” Gou Wei cursed under his breath, but he immediately got up, got dressed, and followed him over. As soon as he stepped into He Jin’s makeshift quarters, he saw someone sitting inside—not He Jin, but Su Mu. “W-what are you doing here?” “He Jin told me to come.” “What did he tell you to do?” “He told me to send you on your way too!” Zhong Da struck Gou Wei on the back of the head with a club from behind. He never would have imagined they’d have the audacity to strike such a fatal blow so brazenly! Caught completely off guard, Gou Wei was knocked to the ground in an instant. Su Mu straddled him and rained punches down on his head. It didn’t take many blows before the man was beaten to death. Apart from the few men around Song Dachui, who were relatively strong, the rest of the Supervision Team was actually quite average; they relied on their status as supervisors to lord it over others. The Supervision Team was an official administrative department established by the sect at the Tianfu Mine, backed by the full authority of the sect. Chen Li brought over a large sack, stuffed the body inside, then slipped through the iron gate and tossed the body directly outside the lair, leaving two pieces of high-grade Source Stone by his side. Although Su Mu felt a twinge of regret, this was absolutely necessary. This way, when the Supervision Team arrived, it would further confirm that Cao Shang and his two companions had acted on their own initiative—and that conflicts had even arisen among them. Now all that remained was to wait and see how Song Dachui and the others would react. Su Mu now had an additional card up his sleeve: Sun Datou. He actually dared to cuckold Song Dachui—this man could certainly be put to good use.
