The Life of a Necromancer as a Swashbuckler

Chapter 34: Driving Away the Yechacha

“Are you from the Xiaoyao Sect?” Yechacha asked in disbelief, turning to look at Nameless for confirmation. Nameless examined the Xiaoyao token in his hand, confirmed that it couldn’t possibly be a forgery, and nodded at Yechacha. “What’s your name? What are you from the Xiaoyao Sect doing in my room?” The Yechacha’s earlier polite demeanor vanished, and he seemed to grow angry. “Hmph. My name is Ake. I was actually sent by my master to leave the valley and search for our newly accepted third junior brother. I heard he’d been abducted by you, you demoness. I never expected to run into you by the lake right after leaving Zheng Family Village. A demoness is a demoness—engaged in lewd acts anytime, anywhere!” Ake didn’t seem to notice Nameless hiding nearby. “You’re here to find the third junior brother? Is his name Nameless?” Yechacha’s voice trembled for some unknown reason. “Yes, I think his name is Nameless. You shameless demoness, where have you taken my third junior brother?” Seeing that Yechacha seemed to truly know Nameless, Ake immediately asked. Upon hearing Ake’s question, Yechacha froze in place. She turned to look at Nameless, then back at Ake, her face filled with sorrow. She muttered to herself, “Does the Xiaoyao Sect refuse to grant me even one final night?” After speaking, as if she had made up her mind, she suddenly raised her right palm and struck toward Ake’s chest. As she swung her palm, she shouted, “If I kill you, Nameless will never have to return to the Xiaoyao Sect again,” seemingly intent on delivering a fatal blow. Ake hadn’t expected Yechacha to attack so suddenly. Caught off guard, she could only watch helplessly as the icy palm struck toward her. She closed her eyes tightly, waiting for death. Just as she was about to give up all hope, she heard a loud shout of “Stop!” ring in her ears, followed by a loud thud. When she opened her eyes, she realized someone had stepped in to block Yechacha’s attack. The person who had blocked Yechacha’s attack was none other than the man who had been so deeply in love with Yechacha just moments before. It turned out that Nameless, standing nearby, had seen the Yechacha’s expression suddenly change and sensed something was wrong. He had prepared in advance; the moment the Yechacha struck, he stepped in front of her and unleashed the “Spirit-Synchronized Finger,” barely saving Ake. Although Nameless had saved Ake, he happened to be lying on top of her. Even though his skin was exceptionally smooth and delicate, it wasn’t proper to remain in that position, so Ake hurriedly wriggled free from beneath him. By this point, Nameless’s full attention was focused on the Yechacha. “Miss Ji, spare her!” Nameless knew full well that Yechacha was, after all, a guardian of the Demon Sect; if she truly lost her composure and killed Ake, she figured she’d never be able to return to the Xiaoyao Sect. At that moment, Yechacha was stunned by Nameless’s actions. She hadn’t expected him to strike so suddenly, nor had she anticipated his speed. The technique he used was the Nine Heavens Mystic Separation Art that she herself had taught him, while the inner energy came from the remnants of the Ice-Fire Mystic Maiden Art still within him. Unable to contain her anger, she roared, “Nameless! I never thought you’d actually protect this wicked woman!” After her outburst, her anger flared even more, and she immediately struck out at Nameless with a palm strike. Nameless could only frantically unleash the “Spirit-Synchrony Finger” in a desperate attempt to block it. Yechacha’s palm reached Nameless in the blink of an eye, yet she found herself unable to follow through. Gazing at Nameless’s familiar face, a pang of sorrow gripped her heart. What a strikingly handsome face it was—Just moments ago, they had been passionately kissing, strolling under the moonlight, and practicing martial arts together. So she abruptly changed her move mid-strike, directing her palm toward Ake behind her. By then, Ake had already reacted, and since Yechacha had shifted her attack at the last moment, he easily dodged it. At this moment, Ake’s mind was in a bit of a whirl. The person who had just saved her was actually the third junior brother she had been searching for—Nameless. What was going on? Seeing that Yechacha’s strike had missed, Nameless knew she had held back. Seizing the opportunity, he tried to dissuade her: “Miss Ji, don’t accidentally take a life. We can talk this out.” As he spoke, Nameless pulled Ake behind him, but inadvertently brushed against her body. Seeing this, Yechacha grew even angrier and snapped, “Negotiate my ass!” She swung her palm again, aiming at Ake through Nameless. Ake dodged the blow, and Nameless, standing in front of her, blocked it with his “Spiritual Insight Finger”—the strike missed once again. Having missed her target twice in a row, Yechacha was both shocked and furious. She berated Nameless, “Nameless, you’ve sure fallen for someone else fast! Are you after your little senior sister again?” Hearing this, Nameless was momentarily at a loss for words and hurried to explain, “Miss Ji, after all, Ake and I are fellow disciples. I hope you won’t make a grave mistake out of a moment’s impulse.” Those four words—“from the same school”—seemed to strike a nerve with Yechacha. Ignoring his explanation, she raised both palms and lunged at Ake. Nameless had no choice but to step in to block the attack. Yet the Yechacha, unwilling to harm Nameless, attempted to change her technique mid-air. However, Ake—who had been waiting nearby—spotted her move. Just as the Yechacha shifted her stance, Ake leaped forward and struck her square in the chest with a palm strike, sending the Yechacha flying like a kite with a broken string. She crashed into the opposite wall of the room and lay motionless for a long while. Seeing Yechacha injured, Nameless instinctively wanted to rush to his aid, but then watched as Yechacha slowly stood up, supporting his chest with one hand. His eyes were red-rimmed, as if brimming with tears, and he gazed at Nameless with infinite tenderness before saying bitterly, “Am I still no match for your Xiaoyao Sect after all?” Nameless didn’t understand what Yechacha was talking about and wanted to step forward to comfort him, but then he saw Yechacha suddenly soar into the air, taking Ake’s clothes from the floor with him, and fly out of the room as if in tears. Nameless hurried after her, but by then, Yechacha was already out of sight. Unable to find Yechacha, Nameless felt a pang of despair and could only return to the room with his head hanging low. The moment he stepped inside, a gleaming long sword was thrust against his throat, and a cold voice commanded from across the room, “Don’t move!” It turned out to be Ake, who had grabbed the long sword from the room and was pointing it at Nameless. Nameless didn’t dare move a muscle. “Are you Nameless?” Ake asked coldly. “I am indeed Nameless. Are you Ake, a disciple of the Xiaoyao Sect?” Nameless replied, his voice trembling with fear. “Where is your Xiaoyao token?” Ake ignored Nameless and went straight to the crucial question. “It’s in my clothes,” Nameless signaled with his eyes. Ake searched as instructed and indeed found the Xiaoyao token, engraved with the character “名” (name)—it was indeed Nameless. After confirming it was Nameless, Ake lowered her long sword, sat down by the bed, and asked Nameless, “What were you doing with that Demon Sect sorceress just now?” As she asked, her face flushed again. “Senior Sister Ake, there’s something I must bring to your attention,” Nameless said, avoiding her question. “What is it?” Ake looked at Nameless with a puzzled expression in her almond-shaped eyes. “Why don’t we get dressed first?” Nameless said earnestly.
