My Superpower Is Kind of Cute

Chapter 36: Green Shield

“Come on, then.” As Qi Yun snorted, he instantly blocked the three marbles. Not only that, but with a flick of his sleeve, there was a “smack”—and the marbles were sent flying right back at Feng Dandan. Caught off guard and not expecting this move, Feng Dandan was struck by the very marbles he’d fired. He let out a wail, collapsed to the ground, and went completely still. I looked closely and noticed something resembling a shield had appeared on his right wrist. It was green, though unlike a typical round shield, it was octagonal, with the outer edge slightly raised—it didn’t even look as impressive as Feng Dandan’s little slingshot. “Is this your spirit artifact?” I asked, a hint of disappointment in my voice. It was far worse than I’d imagined. Someone of Qi Yun’s royal status should at least be wielding a gold-plated broadsword—or at the very least, a pair of scissors. Pulling out this green shield was a real blow to his prestige. Qi Yun didn’t pick up on my sarcasm and said proudly, “This is a divine artifact my master passed down to me.” I picked up on his words and said, “Well, your master sure is stingy. Did he give you this thing so you could wear it on your head?” Qi Yun immediately stopped responding to me. I looked at Fei Bo and Feng Dandan lying on the ground and asked worriedly, “Are those two okay? They’re not dead, are they? They’re lying there completely still—it’s kind of creepy.” I’d come here with the intention of saving lives; if I ended up killing two more, my life would be over. Qi Yun shrugged it off. “They’re fine—they just passed out. Spiritualists have much stronger constitutions than ordinary people and can take a beating; they don’t die that easily.” I nodded thoughtfully. No wonder the people in *Sea King* never die, no matter how severe their injuries are—not only do they survive, but they’re back on their feet the very next day. That defies all modern medical understanding. Now, only the blond-haired young man and I were left here. His eyes were completely hidden by his hair, and his face was expressionless—it was impossible to tell what he was thinking. “Are you a psychic, too?” After a moment’s pause, the young man spoke slowly, a hint of surprise in his voice. I replied, somewhat taken aback, “Just how slow are your reflexes? I’ve been standing here for at least three minutes, okay?” If this were Ultraman, his red warning light would’ve been flashing by now. The man lowered his head to think for a moment, then suddenly looked up at me, his eyes sparkling. “Your ability is pretty good.” I replied matter-of-factly, “I know that—I didn’t need you to tell me.” The man broke into a smile and silently began warming up. “Aren’t we going up?” Watching him do warm-up exercises that looked almost like elementary school calisthenics, I couldn’t help but ask Qi Yun. Qi Yun, for once, seemed full of righteous indignation. “How could a gentleman take advantage of someone’s vulnerability? If he wants to fight, I’ll fight.” “Damn it,” I cursed under my breath, thinking to myself, “I’ve never seen you act so noble even when watching those adult movies—now you’re suddenly pretending to be some kind of noble hero.” The young man looked at me, clasped his hands together, and said, “Huang Zhenxing, captain of the Fourth Squad of the Original Sin Guild Mercenary Corps, has come to seek a challenge.” “That title sure is long,” I said, slowly backing up to Geng Dong’s side and turning to ask, “Um, what guild are you guys from? The Strange Club or the Supernatural Research Institute?” The two exchanged glances, then said in unison, “We’re from the Institute.” “Oh.” I turned back to Huang Zhenxing and said, “Chen Ming, a member of the Second Squad of the Sea Dog Assault Team at the Supernatural Abilities Research Institute, is here to seek your guidance.” “He’s actually from our Institute?” “When did we even form the Sea Dog Strike Team? How come I don’t know about this?” The two looked completely bewildered, unaware that I’d just made it up on the spot. Since his prefix was so long, I certainly wasn’t going to be outdone. Upon hearing my introduction, Huang Zhenxing nodded seriously, not daring to take me lightly. He flicked his fingertips lightly in front of his chest; a streak of purple light coiled around his hand, and soon a pair of iron knuckles appeared between his fingers—complete with a fluorescent effect that flickered with a purple glow in the night. Huang Zhenxing casually threw a punch to his side to test the feel,The iron knuckles traced a halo of light in time with his punch—it was incredibly cool. I had reason to suspect that the shield in my hand was a fake spirit artifact. “Then I won’t hold back.” Huang Zhenxing seemed to have found his rhythm; his expression suddenly changed. He assumed a boxer’s stance, lunged forward, and instantly unleashed a explosive straight punch. Qi Yun held his green shield in front of his chest; for a moment, the purple light burst apart. Under the force of that powerful blow, Qi Yun actually took two steps back. He glanced at the shield in his hand—following the impact, wispy wisps of blue smoke were rising from the shield’s surface, yet it showed not a single scratch. “That’s pretty impressive,” Qi Yun said with a hint of surprise in his voice. He immediately focused his attention, shifted from defense to offense, leaped into the air, and used the downward momentum to slam the edge of his shield into Huang Zhenxing. Seeing me take the initiative, Huang Zhenxing grew even more excited. He met my shield with a punch; the brass knuckles and the shield clashed, producing a crisp, thunderous sound and sparks flying like lightning. After this exchange, both Huang Zhenxing and I took a few steps back, our arms noticeably numb. Huang Zhenxing, standing across from me, clearly hadn’t gained much of an advantage either; his hands, clad in brass knuckles, trembled uncontrollably, yet his expression grew increasingly excited and ferocious. Feeling uneasy, I asked Qi Yun, “Is this going to hold up, bro? I feel like I’m about to get crushed. This guy is definitely not in the same league as Xu Weijie.” Qi Yun patiently explained, “Xu Weijie didn’t go all out that day. In terms of spiritual power alone, these two are pretty much on par.” I timidly pointed out, “Aren’t you missing the point? Is that really what I meant?” “I know—you’re worried I won’t be able to beat him, right?” “You said it yourself. Is this really the time to be messing around? If we really can’t win, shouldn’t we just run?” Huang Zhenxing tilted his head slightly, looking at me with some confusion, wondering why I’d been standing there for so long without launching another attack. “Um… Young Hero, what’s going on here?” Geng Dong plucked up his courage to come up behind me and ask quietly. He’d watched the whole spectacle clearly just now; now, covered in a cold sweat, he said timidly, “If there’s nothing going on, can we just leave now?” “You f***ing…” I cut off my mental communication with Qi Yun and glared at Geng Dong in disgust. I was bleeding and shedding tears for them right now, and not only did they fail to cheer me on, but they actually wanted to run away? Had they completely forgotten the “Eight Honors and Eight Shames”? Seeing that I seemed a bit annoyed, Geng Dong swallowed the words he hadn’t yet spoken, slunk back to the corner, and continued watching the show between me and Huang Zhenxing. Huang Zhenxing was slightly annoyed that I still had the presence of mind to chat with others while fighting. He didn’t say anything out loud, but behind the scenes, he was quietly gathering his strength, then charged at me again without a word. Qi Yun looked utterly confident. “Mengmeng, in three moves, I’ll make him admit defeat.” “If you’ve got time to brag, just get on with it.” Watching Huang Zhenxing get closer and closer, I genuinely felt like I was about to get crushed. “Hah.” Qi Yun took control of my hand. With a soft command, a burst of emerald light flashed, and the shield in my hand began to grow—in the blink of an eye, it had become wider than my entire body. Then, Qi Yun planted the shield—which was as wide as a door—firmly into the ground, positioning it solidly in front of himself. Huang Zhenxing didn’t stop; instead, he struck my shield with all his might. A deafening roar echoed through the entire old house, yet I stood unscathed behind the shield, feeling absolutely nothing. If it weren’t for that thunderous sound, I would’ve thought he’d stopped midway. Qi Yun chuckled softly and said, “Mengmeng, now it’s our turn. We have two moves left.”
