Apocalyptic Crazy Kitty

Chapter 40: The Orange Cat Gets Eaten!

“Meow-woo—” The Orange Cat screamed in midair. His tail was now gripped by a zombie with a pair of membrane wings growing from its back, and the entire cat was swinging back and forth through the air, its four paws scratching frantically, like an oversized stuffed cat. “Your Majesty!” “What do we do!?” Everyone watched in utter panic as the Orange Cat was snatched away by the membrane-winged zombie. In a panic, Erzi grabbed a chair from the room and hurled it at the membrane-winged zombie in the air, but it dodged the throw with ease. The others followed suit, grabbing whatever was at hand and hurling it at the membrane-winged zombie, but in the blink of an eye, it had already flown dozens of meters away—not a single throw hit its mark, except for a water cup. “Thud!” A vase smashed right into the cat’s face. “Damn it, meow! Wait here for me—don’t move!” the Orange Cat shouted loudly, only to be snatched up by the membrane-winged zombie in the next instant, flying past a skyscraper and vanishing from sight! “Thud!” Erzi slammed his fist into the wall, leaving a deep indentation, and watched the direction the Orange Cat had vanished in with deep concern. Bai Biao looked just as worried as he said, “We were careless. We never even imagined there would be flying zombies… But with the Great King’s overwhelming combat power, I’m sure he’ll take down that flying zombie and be back in no time…” “Mm-hmm.” Erzi nodded, regaining his composure as he thought of the Great King’s power. Outside was already a world of zombies; chasing after it would only be a suicide mission. The right thing to do was to stay here and survive—they could always go look for it once the zombie horde had passed. Now that the Great King had been taken captive, it was naturally his responsibility to ensure the safety of their small squad—he couldn’t afford to panic. Taking a deep breath, Erzi looked around at everyone and said, “Without the Great King’s spiritual presence, we’ll inevitably be attacked by zombies. For now, let’s not act rashly. Let’s observe the situation outside before deciding what to do next. We’ll take turns standing guard and rest a bit… I’ll take the first watch. You guys get some rest.” Everyone nodded; they had great confidence in Erzi’s arrangements. Mo Xiaoqing turned to look at the sky where the sun was just rising and silently prayed in her heart, “Please, Great Cat King, don’t let anything happen to you…” “Damn it!” Zuo Chen felt dizzy and disoriented and couldn’t help but curse. This membrane-winged zombie was absolutely despicable! Although it was a mutated zombie, it seemed to possess a high level of intelligence. Every time Zuo Chen tried to swing his tail to pull himself up, the membranous-winged zombie would shake its tail violently, leaving him completely unable to gain any leverage. Hanging in midair, he couldn’t use his bone spines or claws for leverage—he simply couldn’t muster any strength. Moreover, as the membrane-winged zombie flew, it kept twirling its tail, spinning him around in midair like a top—the entire cat was so dizzy he felt like he was about to throw up. Amid the high-speed spin, he actually got a 360-degree view of the scene on the ground. The zombie horde continued to advance; this membrane-winged zombie moved primarily by gliding, not very fast, but it was faintly visible at the very front of the horde. Thousands upon thousands of zombies surged forward like a flood capable of sweeping everything away, even pushing the zombies already present in the ruins of Weicheng along with them. The deeper they ventured into the ruins of Weicheng, the more white, slimy threads covered the streets and buildings—it was as if they were constantly delving deeper into a spider’s nest. As these zombies advanced, they all became more or less coated with the slimy threads found in the ruins of Weicheng; some were even completely entangled in them, looking as if their bodies were covered in cotton fluff and spiderwebs. It wasn’t until Zuo Chen looked back up that he realized the membrane-winged zombies were also covered in these filaments—he wondered if they’d drifted down from the air. “They’re forcing me to transform into a rainbow!” Zuo Chen took a deep breath, about to transform into the Rainbow Cat. Just then, among the horde of zombies below, a shriveled, scrawny zombie spotted the membrane-winged zombie flying overhead. It suddenly let out an eerie screech, and its body began to swell rapidly. In the blink of an eye, it grew more than ten times its original size, transforming into a giant zombie standing four or five meters tall! In the next instant, the giant zombie leaped into the air—soaring over ten meters high—and grabbed the membrane-winged zombie mid-flight. With a violent yank, it tore the creature’s wings right off! Its arms, as thick as water barrels, gripped the membrane-winged zombie’s body. It opened its blood-stained maw and shoved the membrane-winged zombie’s upper body—along with the Orange Cat it was clutching—straight into its mouth! Teeth as hard as millstones came down, chewing the membrane-winged zombie’s corpse into a pulp, while a heart-wrenching cat’s meow rang out from its mouth: “It hurts so much, meow! You son of a bitch, meow!” The giant zombie’s teeth sank into Zuo Chen’s body, but were blocked by his periosteum, unable to cause any serious injury—though it was excruciatingly painful. To the giant zombie, it felt as if he were chewing a piece of gum—no matter how hard he chewed, it just wouldn’t break down. Suddenly, the giant zombie snapped its mouth open, shoved both hands inside, and began digging frantically, as if trying to pull something out. After just two frantic tugs, it found nothing—but ended up tearing its own tongue off. His eyes turned blood-red, and a terrifying growl erupted from his throat. He began to run at full speed, trying to shove his right hand into his mouth as he ran, while his other hand kept slapping the back of his head, as if trying to knock something loose. The strength of this giant zombie after its transformation was immense; ordinary zombies in its path were instantly crushed under its foot, reduced to a pool of flesh. He raced through the tide of zombies, leaving a trail of blood in his wake; even many powerful mutated zombies dared not stand in his way. The giant zombie ran faster and faster; eventually, he began leaping nonstop, covering dozens of meters with each bound. Suddenly, there was a “crack”—his jaw was actually snapped by his own arm! A dozen or so minutes later, the giant zombie had charged deep into the ruins of Weicheng, into a large supermarket. The zombie horde hadn’t even reached this area yet; only the native Weicheng zombies, their bodies entangled in slimy threads, were wandering aimlessly, paying no attention to the giant zombie. Finally, after taking a few steps across the blood-stained floor, the giant zombie came to a halt. With a “thud,” it collapsed to the ground, completely silent, and its once-massive body gradually began to shrink. To everyone’s surprise, it had actually smashed a bloody hole right through the back of its own neck! Then, a furry head poked out of the bloody hole, and Orange Cat—covered in blood and drool—crawled out. The moment it emerged, the Orange Cat immediately began vomiting violently, as if the seas had turned upside down. Already reeling from the membrane-winged zombie’s attacks and now choked by the stench of the giant zombie’s saliva, Zuo Chen simply couldn’t hold his stomach any longer. However, since he’d already digested most of what he’d eaten that day, after vomiting for a while, he only brought up some acidic fluid—mostly just dry heaving. After he was done, Zuo Chen plopped down on the ground and began massaging every part of his body with his paws, grimacing as he did so. This giant zombie had an incredibly powerful bite; the membrane-winged zombie from earlier had been chewed to bits in just a few bites. If Zuo Chen hadn’t been so physically tough, he’d have turned into cat meat paste by now. Even so, the pain was unbearable. Fortunately, that idiot hadn’t realized Orange Cat wasn’t all that tasty—he’d been fatally wounded from the inside, and the zombie’s essence had been completely drained. Zuo Chen couldn’t be bothered to absorb the giant zombie’s memories; he simply devoured its entire brain, gaining the ability to grow to gigantic proportions. Still, now wasn’t the right time to experiment. What on earth was this place…? Zuo Chen looked around and saw that the supermarket was covered in slimy threads; the zombies inside were practically wrapped up like mummies. Clearly, he had ventured deep into the ruins of Weicheng. “I need to find a vantage point to see how far the zombie horde has spread…” Zuo Chen thought to himself as he stood upright on two legs and headed toward the supermarket’s exit. But after taking just a few steps, he heard a rhythmic “clap, clap, clap, clap” coming from the doorway. Enemies? His bone claws extended silently. Zuo Chen held his breath, his paw pads touching the ground gently as he moved without a sound around a row of shelves to look toward the exit. A curly-haired Teddy dog, dressed in children’s clothing, was standing on the cash register counter. With its front paws wrapped around the screen, it was rhythmically thrusting its hindquarters forward, looking utterly entranced as it committed unspeakable acts against the cash register display…
