Apocalyptic Crazy Kitty

Chapter 25: The Music Restaurant

Those dozens of humans had formed three layers of combat formations, continuously firing at the zombies closing in on them. Meanwhile, that powerful skeleton zombie was directing the zombies’ assault! However, the surveillance equipment in the underground testing facility was too severely damaged, causing the recording to be intermittent; this video is just over five seconds long. Next is the second video clip. In this clip, the entire underground testing facility was littered with severed arms, dismembered limbs, and bloody remains. Though dozens of zombies remained, they did not attack the humans. As for the surviving humans, only seven remained! But these seven were now relentlessly smashing metal cots or sprinting at incredible speed, displaying astonishing strength and agility! A cat can be seen in the corner of the room, with a box filled with blue vials placed in front of it—it was the Type C Evolution Serum that Song Tianqiao had painstakingly developed but hadn’t yet had a chance to use! This video was only three seconds long, but it left Song Tianqiao deeply shaken. There was no doubt about it: after these people had taken down the mutated zombies, they had obtained the evolution serums and injected themselves—and their bodies had indeed undergone a dramatic evolution! As for the cat, he didn’t pay it any mind at all. Since the equipment at the Yancheng Biological Research Institute had suffered such severe damage, Song Tianqiao had only managed to obtain these two fragmented video clips—yet they had already sent shockwaves through his mind. He currently had no Type C evolutionary serum on hand, and the experimental data was simply too inhumane for him to release. If he wanted to continue his research, the best approach would be to capture these seven individuals and conduct further experiments on them. However, his position at the Jicheng Base was now somewhat precarious. Although he had gained recognition and high-level access after transferring from the Yancheng Biological Research Institute due to his technical expertise, he was unable to mobilize significant resources. “Looks like I’ll have to ask the Organization for help… Hmph, I hope the Organization understands just how important these people are…” Song Tianqiao muttered to himself. He then typed a series of commands into his computer, accessed a dark web deeply buried beneath the Academy of Sciences’ surface network, and began sending a message. He didn’t say much; he simply sent over some of his experimental data and the two video clips, each lasting only a few seconds. He was confident the Organization’s contact would grasp the significance of this. Soon, a reply came back: “Received. We will dispatch Shennu Squad 87 to carry out the hunt. During this operation, the squad will report directly to you.” The message existed for only two seconds before it was automatically self-destructed. Everything—including the traces of Song Tianqiao’s recent activity—vanished without a trace, as if it had never existed. Yet the corners of Song Tianqiao’s mouth turned up slightly, revealing a smug smile: “A full Shennu squad… Just what I wanted!” Heat oil in a cast-iron skillet and stir-fry the spices! The chopped goose was tossed into the wok and stir-fried! Soy sauce! Cooking wine! Green onions, ginger, and garlic! Add water and simmer until the goose meat is tender! Add the diced potatoes and salt! Continue simmering! That jerk from the Yancheng Biological Research Institute who never leaves the building. You’re such a troublemaker! “My Lord, what is this…?” Erzi and the others asked, wide-eyed. Although they were already accustomed to the Beast King’s ability to move objects through the air, hearing the melody of “Erquan Yingyue” suddenly ring out still left them utterly stunned. They had absolutely no idea what was going on! Zuo Chen said with a grim expression, “Let’s eat. Just pretend we’re at a music restaurant.” Does your music restaurant really play “Moon over the Second Spring”? The customers are in tears! Although they had no idea what was going on, Bai Biao and the others went back to wolfing down their food. They didn’t really mind—it was just music, after all, and it was definitely better than the howls of zombies. Just as they thought that, a piercing wail of zombies echoed up from downstairs—the sound of the erhu had drawn every zombie in the entire neighborhood… A huge pot of goose stewed with potatoes was quickly devoured by the group. Although they were already full, a few of the bandits, still not quite satisfied, pulled out a can of food and polished it off before they finally felt content. The “Moon Reflected in the Second Spring” piece had come to an end, and Zuo Chen had finally come to terms with the fact that the system was utterly unreliable. He decided to just treat it as a form of entertainment. Afterward, the group—one cat and seven people—scoured the research institute, taking every last bit of remaining food and weaponry. They also collected and cremated the bodies of their fallen comrades before finally leaving the place. Hundreds of zombies had gathered on the streets, but under Zuo Chen’s mental pressure, they all automatically stepped aside, forming a clear zone twenty meters in diameter around them. “Since you’re all ready to leave Yancheng with me, get your things together and let’s go,” Zuo Chen told the group. “With me protecting you, the zombies won’t attack you—you might as well go shopping.” After the bloody battle, everyone was covered in blood, their clothes torn to shreds, making them look like beggars. Originally, this “blood-stained” tactic had been highly effective for surviving in the city’s ruins, but now that Zuo Chen—this massive “glitch”—was around, it was no longer necessary. Everyone was overjoyed—after all, who would want to be covered in blood unless they were trying to hide from zombies? Immediately, led by Zuo Chen, the group arrived at a shopping mall and began their shopping spree. Zuo Chen simply drove all the zombies out of the mall’s first floor, letting his crew shop to their hearts’ content. Although he was crouching by the entrance like a maneki-neko, in everyone’s eyes, he was a divine beast that warded off evil. Erzi pulled Bai Biao aside, and the two began whispering to each other, their conversation a mystery to everyone else. A full stomach makes one drowsy; after sitting for a while, Zuo Chen sprawled out right there and began snoring loudly. After sleeping for who knows how long, Erzi’s voice rang out: “Great King, Great King…” “Hm?” The Orange Cat opened his eyes, arched his back, and stretched, then plopped down on the ground, scratching his chin with his hind paw. “The guys are all ready. What do you think of this look?” Erzi said with a smile.
