The Young Girl's Chronicles of Demon-Slaying

Chapter 47: Dinner Party (Part 1)

“Come here, Hengheng. This is your great-uncle! And this is Su Xue!” “Hello, Uncle! Hello, Su Xue!” In a private dining room at a four-star hotel, Lin Yuqin took Song Jianqiu by the hand and began introducing her. She had already met her eldest aunt, Song Wenhui, and had even seen her several times at school, but today was her first time meeting her aunt’s husband and her youngest daughter. Before they arrived, Lin Yuqin had already given Song Jianqiu a brief overview: she knew that her eldest aunt’s husband was named Su Gaocheng, the owner of a company with an annual income exceeding one million, which was even better off than the Song family—they could be considered middle class. As for Su Gaocheng, he actually fit the image of a restaurant owner quite well—he was a bit on the plump side—and said, “It’s boring for the kids to just sit here. Why don’t we let Hengheng take her outside for a quick walk and then come back? The food should be ready by then.” Hearing this, Song Wenhui glanced at Song Jianqiu, then smiled and said, “Let’s do that, then!” After saying this, she turned to the younger girl and asked, “Is that okay with you, Hengheng? Take your little sister for a walk outside, but don’t be gone too long—the food should be coming out soon.” Song Jianqiu was also getting a bit bored sitting there, and figured it wouldn’t hurt to take the little girl out for a walk, so she nodded in agreement: “Sure!” Having received Song Jianqiu’s consent, Song Wenhui turned to ask Little Su Xue, “Xiao Xue, how about going for a walk with Sister Jianqiu?” Xiao Su Xue blinked her eyes, looked at Song Jianqiu for a moment, then nodded in agreement: “Okay!” “Go on, then! Don’t get too rowdy!” Song Wenhui admonished as she lifted her little daughter off the chair. As soon as her feet touched the floor, Little Su Xue scampered around the tables and chairs and ran toward the private room door. Afraid of losing her, Song Jianqiu quickly got up from her seat and followed. Once outside the door, Little Su Xue didn’t run off on her own, but stood at the doorway waiting for her. When she saw Song Jianqiu approaching, she no longer seemed as shy as before and even reached out her hand for her to hold. Song Jianqiu took Little Su Xue’s hand and walked out along the brightly lit hallway, which was carpeted with thick, plush rugs. Come to think of it, she’d never even been to a one-star hotel, let alone a four-star one. During her student days, she basically ate at the school cafeteria—after all, the food was cheap. Later, after graduation, when she had a little extra money, she’d treat herself to a nice meal alone at one of those run-down little eateries on payday. As for hotels that could be rated by stars, she’d never even set foot inside—she’d only ever walked past them to glance at the entrance. Now, here she was, not only inside but actually dining here. It seemed like only yesterday she was just a lowly coder at the bottom of the ladder, earning a meager monthly salary of around 3,000 yuan—with no extra pay for overtime. People who could casually walk into a four-star hotel were the kind she used to look up to in awe. Thinking about it now, it really did feel like a dream. Holding the little girl’s hand, Song Jianqiu marveled inwardly as she walked out of the passageway. She soon reached the railing on the second floor overlooking the exterior; below lay the hotel’s lobby and main entrance. Standing at this height, she had a clear, unobstructed view of everything.
