A young cultivator dressed in a jade-glazed robe travels through a world where Buddhist teachings, spiritual techniques, and restless spirits exist side by side. Though she appears calm and compassionate, her journey repeatedly brings her into places troubled by supernatural forces and unresolved resentment. Each encounter requires more than raw power: she must understand how the haunting began, distinguish hostility from suffering, and decide when confrontation is truly necessary. Her travels gradually become a chronicle of spiritual mysteries, ancient vows, and the difficult balance between mercy and the duty to protect the living.
Chapter 12: Dispelling
The closer he got to the door, the more he could feel the malevolence outside making his hair stand on end. When he was halfway to the door, he was suddenly overcome by an inexplicable fear, stopped in his tracks, and wanted to turn back. Just then, the room was suddenly flooded with a brilliant golden light, emanating from the Buddhist prayer beads on his wrist. The brilliant golden light shone brightly, and beneath its glow, the faint, ethereal sound of Buddhist chants seemed to drift toward him, filling his ears like a refreshing breeze. He went downstairs; it seemed that last night’s events hadn’t caused either of them any harm. But to be sure, he had to see for himself. So he went downstairs, but halfway down the stairs, just past the landing, he saw Lin Yuqin, wearing an apron, setting the table with bowls and chopsticks, preparing breakfast. Hearing the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs, she turned her head and was somewhat surprised to see it was Fang Heng. She smiled and said, “Hengheng, you’re up early today!” “Yeah, good morning!” Early? He’d been so eager to check on Song Wencheng and Lin Yuqin that he’d forgotten to check the time when he left the room. He took a closer look at Lin Yuqin and noticed she still had some dark circles under her eyes, so he asked, “Did you not sleep well last night, Auntie?” “Is it that obvious?” Lin Yuqin touched her face. “I was thinking about things last night and did have a bit of trouble falling asleep. Then, after I finally fell asleep, I had a nightmare… Maybe that’s why I look a little pale.” Did that dark mist merely cause nightmares? Or was it because he’d intervened in time, preventing it from going any further? Fang Heng kept his composure. Noticing that Song Wencheng wasn’t there, he asked, “Where’s Uncle Song?” “Oh, him! He got a call and had to run out!” Lin Yuqin said. “Probably something at the hospital. Nothing out of the ordinary.” After saying that, she glanced at Fang Heng and added, “Come have breakfast! I bought some handmade noodles from East Street today!” “I’ll go brush my teeth and wash my face first.” Fang Heng had come downstairs mainly to see how things were between Song Wencheng and Lin Yuqin. Now that he saw everything was fine, he breathed a sigh of relief and turned to go upstairs to freshen up. Back on the second floor, he didn’t immediately head to the bathroom next to his room to wash up. Instead, he hesitated for a moment, then turned a corner and entered the small living room. The villa was quite spacious, covering over 200 square meters. The first floor consisted of a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and dining room, with no bedrooms for living in. The second floor, on the other hand, was laid out as three bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom. The three bedrooms consist of one master bedroom and two secondary bedrooms; the master bedroom is located in the center, adjacent to one of the secondary bedrooms, while the other secondary bedroom is diagonally across from it. This secondary bedroom is the room where Fang Heng currently lives; right next to it is the second-floor shared bathroom, and just beyond the bathroom is a small living room that isn’t very spacious. The furnishings in this small living room differ from those downstairs, featuring a vintage style: exquisitely carved rosewood sofas, a rosewood coffee table, and a rosewood display cabinet, accented by potted plants with lush green foliage. The scattered decorative items around the room are also designed in an antique style, giving the space a tasteful, old-world charm. This small living room is actually where Song Wencheng keeps his antiques. Aside from the antique vase he had just bought last night, the rosewood display cabinet also holds porcelain plates, bowls, and jade carvings. If they were all genuine, their value would naturally be considerable. Last night, the ghost infant had appeared right here in this small living room. Fang Heng suspected it was either dwelling inside or sealed within one of the antiques—that’s how it’s always portrayed in movies. However, after walking around the room and examining nearly every antique with a hollow or cavity that looked like it could hold something, he found no trace of it. This made him can’t help but wonder: Could it be that the Buddha’s light from last night had destroyed the ghost infant? That would certainly be a good thing, but since this was such a rare encounter, it felt a bit disappointing to have it vanish without finding anything! (End of Chapter)
